Shore Excursion Itinerary

HALF DAY CITY TOURS “WALKING BY TRUJILLO COLONIAL CITY “

We will take you on a tour through Trujillo. An important city in Spanish times, Trujillo has beautiful colonial buildings and mansions. We visit Plaza de Armas with its cathedral, built between 1647 and 1666.

We also visit the Archbishop’s Palace and Calonge House, where Simón Bolívar, the Liberator of South America lived. Then we visit the Emancipation House, now home to Banco Continental, and then the Iturregui Palace, built in 1842, which is currently home to the Central Club.

Then we will visit the Archeological & History Museum, where objects from the different pre-Columbian cultures will be on display.

In addition to visiting the central market of Trujillo, a place with a lot of local culture and the sale of native fruits, and seeing a different way of life for the local population.

After walking around the city, it will be time to try a traditional Trujillo lunch based on duck, goat or ceviche; then enjoy a marinera show and Paso horses.

HALF DAY CHAN CHAN & REED BOATS

we begin at the Plaza de Trujillo to understand a little of the colonial history in Trujillo City and enjoy its old houses and churches.
The entire tour will last approximately 2 hours and then we continue with the visit to the largest mud brick city in the world, «Chan Chan»
Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in America, built by the Chimu and covering an area of about 20 square kilometres.

We take 1 hour walking around palaces and royalty evidences.

We continue up, to the ancient fishing village of Huanchaco which is of the most famous beaches of Peru, where you can see the traditional fishing boats (caballitos de totora) which are still in use Today.

This is a unique and exclusive experience in Trujillo to learn about Peruvian cuisine and its native ingredients and learn how to prepare Peruvian ceviche in its simplest form.

To understand our native Peruvians from the coast, we will visit the city of Chan Chan, which was the capital of the Chimu kingdom that ruled the entire northern coast of Peru from the 10th to the 15th centuries.

After our visit to Chan Chan for a 1 hour walking and learning about the fishing-based economy, we will go to the native fishing village with old totora rafts and enjoy photos to start our cooking class in ceviche and pisco.

FULL DAY TREASURES IN TRUJILLO

The temples of the Sun and the Moon, a religious center for the Moche culture, which developed between 100 and 900 AD. The archaeological complex shows the two large pyramids with flat tops, known as huacas.

Then We go to the center of Trujillo to visit the colonial city with the best preserved mansions and take the best photos in the Plaza de Armas (free time of 20 minutes)

After we continue to Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in America, built by the Chimu and covering an area of about 20 square kilometres.

We continue up, to the ancient fishing village of Huanchaco for a good lunch based in see food or just photos (depend of time ).

Huanchaco is of the most famous beaches of Peru, where you can see the traditional fishing boats (caballitos de totora) which are still in use Today.

1:00 pm Tiempo para aprender sobre la ciudad de Chan Chan y sus palacios durante 1 hora de caminata junto a un guía experto en Historia Pre Inca

Dilser has excellent English skills and completely helped us understand everything that we had questions about.

Visited Temple of the Moon, lunch in Trujillo, followed by Chan Chan. Not once during the day did we feel rushed or like we were asking too many questions.

I can’t emphasize the quality of this tour - his patience with our questions, knowledge of the historical and archeological processes involved, as well as his local expertise far surpass many other tours we have been on. At times, we felt like we were with a celebrity - he is well known and locals always smile when he comes around.

10:00am Recojo del hotel centro histórico de Trujillo Rumbo al centro de la PLAZA MAYOR DE TRUJILLO para una explicación sobre su fundación, sus primeros pobladores y entender cuales fueron los motivos para la fundación de dicha ciudad, además de tener una explicación general de la evolución histórica arquitectónica.

Nuestra vista continua rumbo hacia LA CASA CALONGE URQUIAGA, la cual es un ejemplo de a bonanza económica de las familias en la colonia, dicha casa museo es el ligar donde el famoso Libertado Simón Bolívar se hospedo y organizó la gesta de la independencia del Perú; se conserva parte de utensilios personales de Libertados y objetos de gran valor histórico.

Caminaremos por la calle Pizarro, cual lleva el nombre del fundador histórico de la ciudad hasta llegar a la CASA DE LA EMANCIPACIÓN que fue la casa de reuniones secretadas para nuestra independencia de la colonia española en el año 1820.

Pasando por misma calle nos detenemos en el PALACIO ITURREGUI, pertenecientes a una de las familias que aportaron en la gesta de la independencia de Trujillo y que ahora es sede del club central.

Y para terminar llegaremos a la PLAZUELA EL RECREO donde aún se muestran vestigios del antiguo estanque de agua de la época colonial.
